Making the Case
2023 (In-Season) | Making The Case For Jakobi Meyers
- Proven Producer
- Upwards Trajectory
- Reception Perception
- 2023 Usage
- Cost-Efficient
Jakobi Meyers looks to be on the verge of a “breakout” year.
& I’m going to tell you WHY you should be BUYING him on contending teams.
For starters, Jakobi Meyers is a proven producer.
He led NE in targets & receiving yards each of the last 3 seasons.
& finished with the highest receiving YPG of his career (57.4 YPG) last year (just shy of a 1,000-yard pace).
Meyers was efficient, averaging 2.24 YPRR, 1.62 YPRR, & 1.90 YPRR in those 3 seasons.
He never dipped below a 74.9 PFF Receiving Grade in any year.
Jakobi also graded out as a high-quality route-runner via @RecepPerception.
Last year, Meyers was charted as:
- 63rd percentile vs Man
- 64th percentile vs Zone
- 69th percentile vs Press
Not elite in any 1 category – but above-average across the board.
To start 2023, Meyers is averaging 83.0 YPG (2.55 YPRR).
He has double-digit targets in both games he’s played.
& a full-season pace of 1,411 yards on 187 targets.
He’s probably not going to sustain that pace – but he looks like a SURE bet for 1,000+ yards & a career year.
Meyers is 1 of 13 WR’s with a 30%+ target share through WK3.
& is Top-5 in PPG (22.3 PPG).
You could almost argue LV has two WR1’s…
Meyers is also being targeted as a first-read at a very high-rate as the entire LV offense has been through him & Davante Adams.
There’s no reason Meyers can’t continue to see a 25%+ target-share & potentially finish as a Top-15 WR in 2023.
& he’s the CHEAPEST WR you can say that about.
Meyers is the ONLY WR averaging 20+ PPG priced outside of the Top-100 on KeepTradeCut (& Meyers isn’t even priced inside the Top-125).
Adam Thielen & Josh Reynolds are the only 2 other WR’s even averaging 17.5+ PPG priced that cheap.
It’s basically Jakobi Meyers & that’s it as far as potential difference-making WR producers at a discount price-tag.
BUY.
& I would try to BUY him NOW before he faces an LAC defense in WK4 that has allowed the 2nd most fantasy points to WR’s this year.
Don’t let Jakobi Meyers sit on a rebuilder’s team.
I’d pay a 2024 2 + 3 as a contender – fairly easily.
I also think it’s fair to trade non-productive young players (many of whom I also like) like Kendre Miller, Zach Charbonnet, or Will Levis for Meyers (& you may be able to get Meyers+).
Jakobi Meyers is heading for a BREAKOUT season & he’s someone all contenders should be trying to BUY for cheap.
